About VPN Sherlock
Updated 21 September 2026 · How we research
VPN Sherlock explains VPN technology — protocols, encryption, leak handling and failure modes — so that readers can evaluate providers on how they work rather than on marketing language.
What we do
Explain the technology
Protocol and cryptography explainers written from published specifications and vendor documentation.
Assess providers technically
Reviews focused on protocol support, documented security features and stated limitations.
Show you how to verify
Reproducible test procedures so you can check a VPN on your own connection.
Authorship
Content is published under the VPN Sherlock masthead by a small editorial team. We deliberately do not invent named authors, photographs or credentials to create an impression of expertise. When an article is based on testing performed by a specific person, that person will be named alongside the test record and methodology.
A note on what this means
What we publish and what we refuse to
Our evidence standards are set out in the methodology, our editorial principles in the editorial policy, and our commercial arrangements in the affiliate disclosure. In short: no invented speed tests, scores, audits, user reviews, awards or personal testing claims.
Corrections and contact
If you find a technical error, we want to correct it. Corrections are applied to the page and the update date revised. Where a correction changes a conclusion, we say what changed.

| September 2026 | Repositioned from a provider-ranking site to a technology-led resource. Provider scores and speed figures were removed because no documented testing programme supported them. Commercial terms were preserved unchanged. Twenty technical pages were added. |
